The Pillar of Salt Charity Trust was founded by Donald Brown, who has been
involved in reaching the needy for many years. Together with his children -
Stephen, Liezl, Shani and Donne – and good friends Altus and Desmond, he is
confident that they have the drive to make a difference in South Africa.
Even though
supporting the needs of children and young people are closest to their hearts
The Pillar of Salt Charity Fund hopes to cast their net as wide as possible.
Their mission is to help where help is needed.

The driving force behind the Charity Run is Donne van der Walt.
Along with being a wife, a mother and a dynamic business woman, she has always
been passionate about raising funds for various causes. About three years ago,
someone very special came along and inspired her to focus her goodwill on the
special needs of children. Nicholas is her three year old son and he has
cerebral palsy. If you see him with his older sister Donna or twin brother
Christopher, it is evident that he is a happy, intelligent little boy with a
winning smile and sparkling brown eyes. As Nicki grew from baby to toddler,
Donne, along with husband Eugene, embarked on a journey of discovery. Their goal
- to ensure Nicki gets every chance possible to develop to the best of his
abilities. As a family, the Van der Walts are blessed and can meet his needs,
but it soon became apparent that for others treatment was expensive, extensive
and not readily available.
Donne’s dream is to make things possible. She believes that it takes a small
contribution to make a big difference in a child or young person’s life. Through
the trust she knows that they can do what needs to be done to allow every child
they help to reach their full potential by providing essential services and
support. Whether it’s supporting the angels who work with and care for the
disabled or something as simple as a wheelchair, she wants all children and
young people to be helped on the road to independence.
Charity starts at home, so this year's proceeds will be applied to funds and
services to the areas in and around Western Cape with the hope of taking it
country wide very soon.
